The Kavala Municipal Theatre, as part of the 67th Philippi Festival, presents its second production, “Inside and Outside the Walls” by Kostas Papakonstantinou, on Monday, July 22, and Tuesday, July 23, at 9:30 PM at the Kavala Fortress.
The performance draws its material from Vassilis Vassilikos’s short story collection “The Rebetes and Other Stories” (1977).
Starting with the short story “The Trunk,” two actors on stage search through an old trunk, looking for elements, phrases, and objects to create heroes and heroines from the past and narrate their stories theatrically. Each object they pull out triggers an association, expressed with a verse or a phrase until the next object interrupts it. This game of disguises leads to the memory of a childhood friend and to the short story “My friend Ino”. Ino, the author’s childhood friend, on the day he leaves for Auschwitz, asks his friend to take care of his house until he returns. The two children cannot conceive the inconceivable and hope that this journey will have a quick return. Today, in a tense atmosphere with wars breaking out near us, we choose to tell a story that advocates for the people and for peace. This story speaks of childhood innocence and the cruelty of the world in times of war.

Entry to the theatre is prohibited after the performance begins.
Ticket pre-sale is available at the Kavala Municipality Visitors’ Information Centre (formerly EOT) in the Central Square, tel: 2510-620566, daily from Tuesday, 16th July (10:00 AM – 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM). On the days of the performances, tickets will also be on sale at the event venue’s box office from 7:30 PM onwards.
