DESCRIPTION

The Philippi Festival travels to the Greek National Opera: 12+13+14.09 | GNO Backstage, SNFCC, Athens

A dream-vision on stage, in dialogue with the mythical and natural world of Mount Pangaion, moving between contemporary dance, theatre, and performance.

As part of the 68th Philippi Festival, the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Kavala presents on Monday 1 and Tuesday 2 September at 21:00, at the former Lord building, the performance “Stone+Thread_Heart=” conceived, directed, written and lit by Michalis Angelidis.

The performance draws on the collective imagination of Mount Pangaion — its Dionysian traditions, the transformations of its landscape, and local customs such as those of the Arapides and Babo. These elements compose the atmospheric landscape within which the stage language unfolds. A language inspired by their essence, yet free to recount both old and new stories.

Through movement, gesture, speech and image, two performers and a chorus of women weave a new scenic mythology, where the human coexists with the non-human. Soundscapes based on field recordings from Pangaion and local traditional rhythms envelop and interweave with the action. Inspired by the thought of Rosi Braidotti, the work distances itself from anthropocentrism and envisions a world of equal coexistence between human and non-human beings. At the same time, it engages thematically with the universe of Chronis Missios, drawing on his reflections on the power of collective memory and the need to reconnect with the natural environment.
