The Municipal and Regional Theatre of Kavala, as part of the 68th Philippi Festival, presents on Monday 14, Tuesday 15, and Wednesday 16 July at 21:30 at the Halil Bey Mosque, a performance inspired by the life and work of Chronis Missios.
In a world where reality and imagination are blurred, two young people — a boy and a girl — find themselves trapped in both internal and external forms of confinement. United by the shared backdrop of a civil war and their violent isolation in different countries and eras, they discuss, argue, and seek freedom. Through their dialogue, they negotiate concepts such as memory, the body, life, death, and the very notion of freedom itself. The performance draws dramaturgically on the neurological phenomenon known as “Prisoner’s Cinema,” in which the brain, under conditions of total darkness and deprivation, projects luminous images onto the retina, ranging from abstract colours to fully formed scenes. Within this visual hallucination — an escape from a painful reality — fragments of their lives unfold, converging and diverging, flowing between present and past. But can such a projection become a refuge? Is imagination a means of escape or a trap? The performance features excerpts from the books of Chronis Missios, as well as freely rendered passages from “Resistance” by Souha Bechara.
