Themis Moumoulidis comes to the Ancient Theatre of Philippi on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 July at 21:30 to present, as part of the 68th Philippi Festival, Sophocles’ masterful tragedy “Antigone”. Joining him is a cast of outstanding actors, with Lena Papaligoura in the role of Antigone, one of the most compelling heroines in the history of Western drama, and Ilias Meletis as Kreon.
The war is over. The dead are gathered beneath the harsh light of floodlights. The battlefield shifts to the polished offices of modern decision-making centres. The amplified, harsh sound of the present and the fragile breath of the living voice, the crisp suits and the rags, the mechanised and the desecrated bodies shape a world where conflict intensifies and contradictions deepen.
